The Easter period is especially celebrated throughout Dalmatia, including Supetar. The celebration of Easter begins on Palm Sunday, when locals attend church with olive or palm branches for blessings. The festivities continue during Holy Week, with church ceremonies, processions, and various events such as an exhibition of Easter cakes and traditional "sirnica".
On Maundy Thursday evening, church bells fall silent until Saturday in memory of Jesus' suffering. Good Friday is a particularly solemn day, marked by a traditional procession through the town, where locals gather to pay tribute.
On Easter Sunday, churches fill with families celebrating the resurrection of Christ at morning mass. After the service, it's customary to enjoy a large family lunch with traditional Dalmatian dishes such as lamb, ham, and, of course, Easter cakes and sirnica.
Tip:
If you’re visiting Supetar during Easter, make sure to join the procession and take in the festive atmosphere that brings the old Dalmatian spirit to life.
