A humanitarian photo exhibition titled “Marijini obroci / Saša Ćetković” has opened at the Croatian Public Library Hrvatski Skup in Pučišća. The exhibition will be open to visitors until 12 July 2026. Through powerful black-and-white photographs, it presents the humanitarian work of Croatian missionaries in Benin, and already at the opening, donations were collected that will provide school meals for 70 children in Malawi throughout the entire school year.
The exhibition features works by the award-winning photographer Saša Ćetković, created during his stay in Benin, where he documented the work of Croatian missionaries – the Sisters of the Miraculous Medal. He also shared his personal experience of travelling to Africa, which, as he noted, changed his perspective on life.
The opening programme was further enriched by a musical performance by Jozenka Senka Nižetić and a poetry recital by Nikola Dominus.
The central theme of the exhibition is the school feeding programmes of Mary’s Meals, which provide children in the poorest communities with one daily meal at school. The programme aims to encourage regular schooling by offering both education and the chance for a better future. In Benin, the programme has been operating since 2011.
During the opening, donations were collected sufficient to feed 70 children in the school kitchen “Croatian Islands, Croatia” in Malawi for one school year. The average cost of feeding one child is only 22 euros per year, and this amount provides a regular school meal, education, and a new opportunity to escape poverty.
All those who wish to support the work of Mary’s Meals Croatia can still make a donation. Today, the organisation provides daily meals for almost 3 million children in 16 countries worldwide, and thanks to Croatian donors since 2009, 42 school kitchens have been opened in Malawi, Benin, Zambia and Ecuador.
The humanitarian exhibition in Pučišća remains open until 12 July, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the lives of children in the poorest parts of the world through powerful photography and to support this valuable humanitarian initiative.
