If you're travelling to Brač, keep in mind that shops follow special rules during summer – here's when you can and can't shop.
Due to national regulations, shops in Croatia are closed on public holidays and operate under restricted hours on Sundays. This can especially affect travellers visiting Brač in the summer, when demand is high and many rely on shops at the last minute.
During the tourist season, most shops make use of legal exceptions and open on Sundays, but this isn’t the case for everyone – small shops, kiosks, or some chains may be closed or work shorter hours.
That’s why we recommend that visitors to the island buy everything they need in advance – food, drinks, medication or beach gear. Public holidays require special attention, as almost all shops remain closed.
Croatian national holidays include:
- 1 January – New Year’s Day
- 6 January – Epiphany
- Easter Sunday and Easter Monday
- 1 May – Labour Day
- 30 May – Statehood Day
- Corpus Christi
- 22 June – Anti-Fascist Struggle Day
- 5 August – Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day
- 15 August – Assumption of Mary
- 1 November – All Saints’ Day
- 18 November – Remembrance Day
- 25 and 26 December – Christmas and St. Stephen’s Day
If your trip falls near one of these dates, plan your shopping in advance.
For up-to-date opening hours, it’s best to check directly with the shop, especially on Sundays. Large supermarkets usually post current information on their websites.
