Wine Bar Senjković in Nerežišća: Why this is one of the places on Brač we will always return to

Over the past year, one place on Brač has been mentioned more and more often whenever people talk about the island’s gastronomy. Almost every conversation about food on Brač eventually ends with the same question: “Have you been to Senjković?”

After months of hearing enthusiastic impressions from friends and guests, we decided to visit ourselves and find out whether all those praises were truly deserved.

Brač Gastronomy Guide: 50+ must-try foods and dishes of island Brač

Our evening at Wine Bar Senjković showed us that they were not exaggerated. In fact, after spending several hours there, we completely understood why people keep coming back.

Why Wine Bar Senjković is different from other restaurants on Brač

Wine Bar Senjković is not a classic restaurant or a place where you simply come for a meal. Behind it stands the Senjković family, who produce their own wines on Brač and prepare dishes inspired by the island, local ingredients and the seasons.

The place offers two different gastronomic experiences. The first one is Walk In, where you can spontaneously stop by without a reservation for a glass of wine and several dishes designed for sharing. The second is Wine Dalming, a multi-course tasting menu paired with their wines, which requires a prior reservation.

This time, we chose the Walk In experience, but after only a few minutes there, it was already clear that we would return one day to try the Wine Dalming experience as well.

Everything happens in the very heart of Nerežišća, the former capital of the island of Brač. Stone houses, a peaceful square and a slower rhythm of life create a completely different atmosphere from the busy coastal towns during the summer months.

The wine bar terrace looks directly towards the small Church of St. Peter and Paul, on the roof of which grows one of the most unusual trees in the world – the famous Brač Pine Bonsai Tree. It is a view that makes the entire experience feel even more special.

Our first impression: a full terrace, but no feeling of crowds

We arrived shortly before 8 PM, without a reservation, and even at that time almost all tables were already occupied. We expected the atmosphere might be noisy, but the reality was completely different.

The terrace was full of people, yet everything felt relaxed. At every table, guests were enjoying conversations over glasses of wine and small plates of food constantly arriving from the kitchen. There was no rush and no feeling that anyone wanted you to finish quickly and leave.

We chose one of the available tables made from an old wooden wine barrel, a charming detail that perfectly fits the atmosphere of the terrace.

Saša welcomed us and a glass of wine to start the evening

A few moments after our arrival, the owner and winemaker Saša came over to greet us. There was no big ceremony, just a warm and genuine welcome.

During a short conversation, we asked him which wine he would recommend based on our taste, and his answer came immediately – Pošip Sentiment.

It is a fresh interpretation of Pošip that is beautifully balanced. On the nose, it reveals fruity notes of peach and apricot, while on the palate it offers pleasant freshness, great balance and a smooth fullness. Exactly the kind of wine you want to enjoy during warm summer evenings, and one that pairs beautifully with food.

While we were studying the handwritten menu, their son, who works as a waiter, came to our table. He brought us a bottle of chilled water and glasses so we could refresh ourselves before dinner.

Small details like these may seem insignificant, but they are exactly what creates the feeling that you have arrived as a guest in someone’s home, not just in a restaurant.

A menu that does not try to impress, but succeeds anyway

The menu is handwritten and only two pages long. At first glance, it seems simple, but after trying a few dishes, you quickly realise that every item has been carefully thought through.

You will find fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, as well as both cold and warm plates. The one thing they all have in common is the focus on local, seasonal and fresh ingredients.

Why Brač Olive Oil is a Must-Try

There is no unnecessary complexity or long descriptions. The food speaks for itself.

The first bites that won us over

To start, we chose a platter of Brač cheese and shrimp pâté.

Brač is well known for its sheep, lamb and sheep cheese, so this felt like the perfect way to begin the evening.

The cheese was excellent. Rich, aromatic and full of character that comes from the milk of sheep freely grazing on the island’s fragrant herbs.

But what impressed us even more were the small details. The cheese was served with two homemade jams, and we will especially remember the one made from wild orange and mustard. The freshness of citrus, gentle sweetness and distinctive mustard spiciness created a completely unexpected combination. An explosion of flavours that made us reach for just a little more jam with every next piece of cheese.

The other thing we cannot stop thinking about were the homemade almonds. These are almonds that smell like old Brač. Their taste and aroma instantly took us back to childhood, to the time when the island turned white in early spring with blooming almond trees.

The shrimp pâté was served with excellent sourdough bread enriched with pork fat. A combination you might not expect, but one that gave the entire dish extra depth and richness.

Together with a glass of Sentiment, we could hardly imagine a better start to the evening.

The pulled lamb strudel that will bring us back

After the first bites, our attention returned to the menu. One dish immediately caught our eye – pulled lamb strudel.

The combination of Brač lamb and strudel sounded unusual enough that we simply had to order it.

And when the strudel arrived at the table, it immediately looked like something special.

The crispy, thin and delicate pastry layers hid slow-cooked Brač lamb that literally fell apart under the fork.

The lamb had a slightly sweet character and reminded us of pašticada (famous Dalmatian slow-braised beef stew in a sweet and sour sauce), but at the same time it was original enough that we could not compare it to anything we had tried before.

Brač gastronomic tradition interpreted in a completely new way. We can say without hesitation that this is one of the best dishes we have tried on Brač.

If you see pulled lamb strudel on the handwritten menu, do not think twice. Order it.

Blue crab pasta

The fourth dish we chose was homemade pasta with blue crab. We admit, what attracted us most was the ingredient itself.

In recent years, blue crab has become one of the new invasive species in the Adriatic, but we had also heard that it is an exceptionally tasty seafood delicacy.

The homemade pasta was cooked perfectly, while the rich sauce full of pieces of blue crab meat gave it an intense yet elegant flavour.

The portion is ideal for sharing between two people, especially if you plan to try several smaller dishes beforehand.

Why we understand all those five-star reviews

The many excellent reviews of Wine Bar Senjković on Google and other platforms do not surprise us at all after this evening.

It is not only about the food, and it is not only about the wine. The difference lies in the entire experience and the people behind it. From Saša, who personally welcomes guests and gives honest recommendations, to his wife Magdalena, who creatively leads the kitchen, and even their young son who helps serve tables. Everything feels natural, effortless and genuine.

You never feel like you have come to a restaurant trying to impress you or create a false image. Instead, it feels like visiting good friends who want to introduce you to their wines, the island they live on and the food they prepare with genuine passion.

Is Wine Bar Senjković worth visiting?

There are many excellent restaurants and traditional taverns on Brač, and each one has its own story. But only a few places stay in your memory years after returning home, and for us, Wine Bar Senjković is one of them.

Where to eat on Brač

If you are looking for a place where you can taste excellent Brač wines, discover creative interpretations of local ingredients and experience true family hospitality, it is hard to recommend a better address.

What especially surprised us was how fair the prices of food and wine are when compared with the quality of ingredients, preparation and the entire experience you receive.

Before visiting, we definitely recommend checking their opening hours and availability on their website and Instagram. The wine bar operates seasonally, opening from 5 PM, and they often host private events that can affect the availability of the Walk In offer.
